Insurance & Fees
One of the first questions I hear from prospective clients is: Do you take my insurance? It's a good question! Chances are you pay a hefty premium for your insurance and would like to get the most out of the coverage you have.
But, clients are generally unaware of the amount of disclosure of personal information that occurs when insurance is used to pay for therapy. Insurance companies ask for a diagnosis of a mental disorder in order to pay for sessions - and this diagnosis becomes part of your medical history. While you may be seeking therapy for problems in your life - relationship troubles, career transition, dealing with loss - your insurance company will insist on a pathological diagnosis like major depressive disorder, bi-polar disorder, or generalized anxiety disorder.
Philosophically, I cannot agree with the idea of labeling someone as having a mental disorder just for seeking help with problems that come up in nearly every person's life. For that reason, I have made a commitment to working outside of managed care, focusing my energies entirely on providing the best treatment to my clients.
So, how much might working with me cost? This is something I like to discuss in person as everyone's situation is different and I have some flexibility in my fees. My experience is this: it's very likely that we can reach an arrangement that works for you.
